Day 02: The Myth of "Not-Enough"
Why walking your way to better health is more powerful than you think—and how to fuel your journey one step at a time.
Welcome to Day 2 of the 3-Day Summer Reset Walking Challenge!
How’s that 8,000-step goal treating you today? Crushing it? Struggling? Either way, no sweat—literally or figuratively. Life is all about the ability to readjust.
The “what-ifs” lose their power when you embrace flexibility. Adaptability is basically the superhero of health—the ability to readjust and adapt to challenging situations is a key component of resiliency, which is the epitome of health.
If your step count isn’t quite where you want it, pivot. Shift your schedule, squeeze in a quick walk, or turn errands into a stepping spree. You’ll be amazed at how far even a 10-minute walk can take you.
Fun Fact: Did you know it takes about 2,000 steps to cover a mile? So, 8,000 steps equal about 4 miles. At a leisurely 3 mph pace, you’d knock that out in an hour and 20 minutes—assuming you don’t take a step the rest of the day.
Now, I’m not saying you have an extra 80 minutes lying around, but as we learned yesterday (hello, time myth), maybe you do have more time than you think.
Speaking of Stepping Up—
Tomorrow’s goal is 10,000 steps.
While 10,000 steps takes more work and intentionality, it’s doable, especially when you break it into smaller chunks. Here’s how:
Morning Power Walk: Start your day with 15-20 minutes of brisk walking to rack up those steps early.
Lunch Break Walk: Step away from your desk and recharge with 10-15 minute power walk.
Evening Stroll: Use the cooler evening hours to unwind and add those last steps.
Make It Social: Invite a friend or family member to join you—it makes the time fly and the steps add up quickly.
Remember, it’s not about perfection; it’s about showing up. Consistency is your secret weapon.
Lesson #2: The Myth of Not Enough
It’s easy to overlook the everyday, mundane, basic things in the search for change. It’s tempting to think bigger, harder, faster is the way to go, but here’s the kicker: your body doesn’t speak logic; it speaks safety.
Pushing too hard, too fast, can actually work against you, draining energy reserves and triggering stress. Stress is a sneaky saboteur of your health goals.
Imagine your energy as gas in a car. You can’t drive to the mountaintop without fuel, no matter how shiny your car (or your health plan) is. Basics like sleep, nutrition, sunlight, and movement are your gas stations. Skipping them? That’s like trying to road trip on fumes.
You can’t reach the better view, the mountain top moment, without filling your car with gas at the base. The same is true for your body.
You can’t expect your big diet changes to work or that new biohacking tool to help you if you don’t have the energy to process them and use them in a beneficial way.
The basics build capacity to change.
Walking is one of those simple, yet transformative, “fuel stops.” It builds the energy your body needs to tackle bigger health goals. So, before chasing the latest biohacking trend, make sure your foundation is solid.
Here’s a quick energy audit:
What fills your gas tank? (Things that energize you)
What drains it? (Things that deplete you)
Reflect on this today and see how small changes can help you feel more balanced.
Reflection Prompts:
Take a moment to look back on Day 2:
How did you feel after increasing your steps?
Did you notice a boost in mood, energy, or focus?
What’s one thing you appreciated about your walking time today?
Write it down, snap a picture, or share it with the group!
Bonus Challenge:
📸 Share your thoughts—or better yet, a photo of something inspiring from today’s walk in the chat. Found a cool view, quirky street sign, or just love your sneakers? Post it to inspire others (and a chance to win a weighted walking vest).
Tomorrow is the grand finale: a 12,000-step goal!
For now, keep your focus on today. Every step counts!
I aimed for the 8K yesterday and ended up over 10K! I've found that being forward thinking helps me to get more steps in. A few extra steps sprinkled t/o the day help you get to those bigger numbers more easily! I have a 3 hour meeting this afternoon, so I'm already planning scheming and considering ways that I might break up this time for even a few extra steps.
And yes!! Rain is wonderful but as long as there are some breaks to get outside in between.
Hit the step goal earlier today than expected thanks to an extra long walk on the treadmill this morning. As much as I love the calmness of the rain, I’m ready for it to pass and outside walking weather to return!
