I know we spend a lot of time here - bashing diets - but staying on the surface misses the real reason we are fascinated with them.
Understanding that reason is why people engage with even the craziest diets. It's not necessarily because they want to, but a human need drives them to. We have to discuss that need because it's not going anywhere unless it is fulfilled.

Confession: I used to fight hard against order and structure.
It was one of the reasons I rebelled against health, quitting altogether almost six years ago. I gave it all up because I refused to be shoved into a box, promoting ideas that only seemed to wear people down, not build them up.
I won't get into the entire story today (a full post is coming Sunday), but I can tell you that after weeks of no structure, meal plans, or working out, I started to find I was feeling just as bad as when I was pushing myself like crazy in the health space.
I didn't admit it at first (#stubborn), but it wasn't long before I realized this way of living was equally unfulfilling as the traditional health space.

I want to tell you this is not just normal - it's human.
What you are looking for is not necessarily a rule book but a sense of structure.
You're not looking for the perfect diet, but a foundation you can land on that keeps you on a forward-moving path.
You're looking for boundaries and healthy disciplines (or, for my stubborn friends, healthy rhythms). And you're not just looking for them; you need them because they create a sense of safety in a somewhat overwhelming world.
Remember, the natural pull of life is always away from health.
It's always away from positivity. It's always away from faith. To prevent this, you need something to ground you, hold you accountable, and keep you taking action (even subconsciously) that keeps you tethered to health.
