Hormonal Thoughts
4-minute read | You are not hormonal. You are energy-deprived. Stop villainizing your hormones and use them to thrive.
I overheard my husband murmur, “So many hormones.”
As if it is a bad thing.
It may have been my hormones speaking, but I had to remind him that males have the exact same hormones as females. Different ratios, of course, but he is just as hormonal as I am.
Not to mention, women are not hormonal or become irrational because of hormones but because they lack energy.
Hormones are not the villains we’ve made them out to be.
They’re present, and they ignite an action. But hormones are not the reason you’re responding how you are. Even if you are hormonal, there is more to the irrationality or short fuse you have. Surprisingly, it’s not about your hormones.
It’s always about the story your body is telling.
Today, I want to clear the air so you can stop spending so much time worrying about your hormones and start to make changes in the area that matters.
To change the story your body is telling.
Hormone Truths:
01. Hormones are messenger molecules.
The saying, “don’t shoot the messenger,” is perfect for its relation to hormones. It’s easy to blame your hormones for how your body responds. Hormones certainly send messages informing how the cells should take action. But hormones are simply delivering the message, not writing it.
Hormones are packaged messages written by your brain based on safety and energy.
The hormones produced are dependent on what message the body is sending.
If you want to change your hormones, you must change the message.
02. Hormones are triggered based on a hierarchy.
We’re quick to blame our sex and thyroid hormones (or a lack of them) for the reasons we don’t have a libido or can’t lose weight. They do change how you feel and look, but they’re not the starting point for problems.
As the chart shows, tier-one hormones influence tier-three.
If you want to fix your sex hormones, you have to work through healthifying tier-one hormones. You must pay more attention to the hierarchy than any specific hormone.
03. Hormones are energy.
Technically, hormones are considered ‘energetic messenger molecules.’ Like emotions, each hormone carries an energetic load or puts off an energetic frequency.
Shifting your hormones boils down to your energetic flow.
Increase your energy movement, and you will create balance in your hormones.
Sluggish energy means sluggish thyroid output and a decrease in ‘healthy’ hormonal patterns. Healthy energy movements mean healthy thyroid output and healthy hormonal patterns.
It’s all about energy.
Fun eye-opening hormone facts:
What you speak can change your hormones or the person's hormones you are talking to. This has been highly convicting to me, knowing I can change my kid's hormones and husbands by what I speak to them and over them.
Body fat is a hormone-producing organ built for protection. Your diet won't determine when it's safe enough to leave. Your body fat will.
Women aren't "hormonal" when they're menstruating, they're energy-deprived. Menstrual cycles cost the body a lot of energy. When energy is depleted, you get run down and tired. You're not hormonal. You're just exhausted.
Oxytocin is one of our most powerful master hormones. It's built on connections and pleasure, proving our independent, workaholic lifestyles are not as fulfilling as we once anticipated. You're dependent on others. We need each other, and we need to experience pleasure. Pleasure is a necessity.
What you engage with and your lifestyle can shift the hormones you produce. Women can create a better progesterone and estrogen balance by engaging in nurturing, creative, and adventurous activities. Hard physical labor can increase testosterone in men. Like the words you speak, your actions change your hormone output.
You have hormones, but you’re not hormonal.
You have hormones. Sometimes, those hormones can create a problem. But I need you to know your 'problems' are not the result of a specific hormone but the message the body is speaking.
If you want to change your hormones, you must change the message.
It's always about the story.
The path forward, the path of changing your body, is quite simple.
PROVIDE SAFETY + SUPPORT ENERGY.
Your hormones do a lot. They are interconnected in everything you do.
But they're not your problem.
You're not hormonal. You're just exhausted. And you can do something about that.
I’m going to step off my soapbox now (while also texting my husband to make sure he reads this ;) )
I’m also going to challenge you to pay attention to how safe and energized you feel. You have so much power to change those two things. Doing so will change the story your body is telling.
What area do you struggle with more? Safety or energy? Leave a comment below because my next post will be a product of the comments!

I honestly don't know the answer because I am chronically in survival mode and feel depleted of both safety and energy. I suppose intuitively my initial response is to focus on improving sleep but that begs the question of where do I start there?
Yes girl! This is one of the best descriptions of hormones I have seen.
