The (Hidden) Health Equation That Works
The Weekly Fill | Spoiler Alert: It has nothing to do with calories.
All healing happens in the same way.
I know there are a million different diets for specific problems, which can make you believe that healing is specific and calculated. For example, there are diets specific to healing Hashimoto's and others for histamine. The list of different diets might feel extensive, but at the core, they all heal the same way.
Unfortunately, diet oversaturation is part of the confusion in the health space. I don't want to discount that each is unique—even if it is just hearing it spoken in a way that resonates with your current struggles.
But at the core of all healing, it comes down to one simple thing: you must increase the resources of your body to handle its burdens.
And as you increase your resources you gain the capacity to handle and even reduce those burdens.
Health is always a metric of resources vs. burden.
This isn't just a theory—it's how the body works. Healing happens when there's a balance between resources (like nutrients, rest, and energy) and burdens (like stress, toxins, or deficiencies). When that balance tips out of favor, you open the door to illness, injury, and disease.
Why We Get Sick
Sickness, injury, and chronic illness often come down to this equation:
Your body runs out of resources.
Your burdens outweigh your capacity to manage them.
It's like a bank account.
When you have plenty of energy in your "account," you thrive. You can even invest in things that create long-term health benefits, such as new patterns, hobbies, and relationships.
But when resources are low, the body starts borrowing, just like dipping into credit.
At first, you might not notice. The body is incredibly resilient, finding ways to keep you going. But over time, the "interest" builds. The system starts to break down. What began as subtle fatigue or discomfort turns into symptoms, illness, or chronic disease.
This was my reality, though I didn't see it then.
My Health Crisis:
Honestly, I was blindsided when I fell into my health crisis. From the outside, I was doing everything right. I followed all the rules, ate the "perfect" diet, and exercised regularly. By every conventional health standard, I should have been thriving.
But I wasn't. I missed the first symptoms, overriding them by working to reach a better destination. Eventually, the symptoms become debilitating, forcing me to pay attention.
Looking back, it makes total sense why my health fell apart (hindsight tends to work that way).
My actions, no matter how "healthy," weren't supporting my body's needs. Instead, I was unknowingly deepening my energy debt. I focused so much on outcomes—on how things looked—that I missed the most critical question: What does my body need right now?
I was living in a ratio where the burden on my body was greater than the resources I had available.
Understanding the equation between burdens and resources proves that health is less about where you want to go and more about where you currently are. If you don't know where you are and why, it's harder to pinpoint how to change.
Change is not just doing something; it's doing what supports your body.
How You Heal:
As we come to mid-January, your health resolutions might be taking a nose dive (it's common by this point). But I wanted to remind you that healing isn't about forcing change.
Healing—health—is about creating the conditions that allow your body to change naturally. And that begins with awareness.
You have to pay attention.
How does your body feel? Are you tired? Overwhelmed? Are symptoms trying to tell you something?
This can feel difficult in a world obsessed with quick fixes and rigid goals. But true healing requires meeting your body where it is, not where you think it should be.
I know this isn't the glamorous side of health. There's nothing sexy about prioritizing rest over productivity or saying no to the latest diet trend. But the rewards are worth it. When you stop focusing on overcoming the "debt" of illness and start building "wealth" in your health, everything changes.
How To Support Change:
If you're not sure where to begin, start with small steps. Pay attention to your energy levels and symptoms—they're signals, not enemies.
This week on the podcast, I'm diving into what I call the three essentials of health:
Energy
Safety
Patterns (time and consistency)
These essentials form the foundation of healing. Inside, I'll show you how to increase your resources and reduce your burdens in a way that feels achievable and sustainable. **We'll build on this all year long.

REMINDER: Weight Loss and Energy Class
Next Thursday, I'm hosting a class you didn't know you needed on weight loss. Whether you're struggling with weight gain or loss, it often comes down to the same equation: resources versus burdens. This isn't a quick-fix class, but it works and lasts.
If you're ready to understand the deeper connection between energy, weight, and health, I'd love to have you join me.

Remember, healing isn't about doing more. It's about supporting more.
Health is doing what supports your body. It's about building a foundation of health-wealth that allows you to thrive.
Wherever you are on your journey, know that healing is possible. It starts with paying attention, meeting your needs, and trusting that your body is capable.
This year I want to remind you to prioritize your needs over your goals, trusting that if you meet your needs, you will have the energy and capacity to achieve your goals.
Prioritize your needs over your goals.
In the end, health is less about doing things for the sake of arriving and more about doing things for the sake of supporting. It's the only way to be healthy.
Take the quiz to find your energy level. Then, leave a comment with one symptom you are facing and what it might be telling you.
**If you don't know, comment with your 'problem’, and I can help identify a solution.
See you in the comments!
