The Summer Walking Club is not your average step challenge, even if it does involve a lot of steps. It is designed to help you build a new framework for health—one that changes how you show up for yourself. Because let’s face it: that’s one of the hardest parts of health.

Below is a sample lesson that will be sent out M-F throughout the summer.

The goal is to give you a quick dose of thought-provoking information that you can take action on and experiment with. Through experimentation, you will experience what your body needs to thrive!

The Summer Walking *Club* | Day 17:

The Art of Pleasure

Pleasure is a human necessity, not just a desire. Your cells need pleasure, like they need water. Pleasure is also one of our greatest motivators. It’s why we stick with things. In human survival, it’s also why all survival requirements come with a level of pleasure—whether that’s food, finding shelter, or sex.

Pleasure not only helps you stick with it, but it changes what your body does with it, making pleasure one of our more potent tools.

Today’s lesson is about using micropleasures to transform your mindset and your cells for the better.

Daily Step:

While out walking today, identify three micropleasures. These might include the warmth of the sun on your skin, the sound of birds chirping, or the sense of accomplishment after a long walk.

Take it up a notch:

One of the biggest reasons people quit healthy habits is because they’ve attached negativity to them—often without realizing it. Even saying, “I don’t have enough time,” puts a negative spin on an activity, leading to feelings of insecurity or unsafety.

Break out of that cycle by attaching pleasure to actions that align with your goals. Here’s how to add pleasure to basic things:

  • Cooking: Play your favorite playlist or savor the flavor of how you spice your food.

  • Exercise: Focus on the joy of movement or the post-workout glow.

  • Nighttime Routines: Light a candle, sip tea, or enjoy a good book.

Health is a choice, and it’s built on perspective.

What healthy pleasure can you create today?

Catch Up From This Week:

  • Day 14: The Pain of Change

  • Day 15: Q: Why Are You Not?

  • Day 16: *Permission* to Have a Milkshake (but make it healthy)

It’s not complicated information; it's bite-sized information that you can chew on, think about, and experiment with during your day. If you like what you see, join me this summer inside the Summer Walking Club.
