Would you walk with me?
Last Week of the Summer Walking Club: 100,000 Steps. 5 Days. One Team. Are you in? đ đȘđ¶ââïž
The Summer Walking Club may be wrapping up, but this isnât the end. Itâs just the beginning of whatâs ahead. I promise there are so many great things coming that will keep you moving toward living out health.
Yes, Iâm bringing up the move toward strategy versus the move away strategy because itâs vital in how you keep taking steps towards change.
You want to move toward what you want, not away from what you donât.
With that said, one of the biggest catalysts for change isnât diet, exercise, or sleep. Itâs community.
Psychologist Bruce Perry (author of one of my favorite books, What Happened To You) states,
âOur major finding is that your history of relational healthâyour connectedness to family, community, and cultureâis more predictive of your health than your history of adversity. This is similar to the findings of other researchers looking at the power of positive relationships on health. Connectedness has the power to counterbalance adversity.â
What that means is, regardless of your âhealth historyâ or our past story, your relational health matters more. Strong connections can counterbalance even significant health adversity (chronic illness, injury, stress, trauma, or even body dysmorphia).
Health isnât just about what you eat or how much you move. Itâs also about who youâre walking alongside.
Community matters.
Thatâs why, as we wrap up The Summer Walking Club, I wanted to take note that this community weâre building,
It isnât going anywhere (more details to come).
It needs YOUR personal touch!
If youâre anything like me, you need people in your backyard (figuratively and literally) who notice when you stop showing up, who notice when youâre hurting, who cheer you on as you move forward. Likewise, someone needs you too.
(If you caught my message in the community yesterday, I reminded you that YOU are the chief energy officer of your home. When you charge your own energy battery, you set the tone for everyone around you.)
So, for the final week of the challenge, letâs have a little fun. Weâre finishing with a Tribal Challenge. Donât worry, no one is getting kicked off any islands.
This challenge is about building connection while moving toward growth.
Take the Tribal Challenge:
There are a few ways this is going to play out.
THE GOAL: Enlist a friend (they donât need to be in the Walking Club!) and hit a 100,000-step goal in 5 days.
To break that down, that is 10,000 steps per day for each participant for five days.
One of you can walk more and the other less. The idea is that you work together, encouraging one another to keep moving forward.
Donât forget to make it fun! IdeasâŠ
Celebrate with a Saturday morning coffee date or a dinner date at the end of the challenge.
Walk together a few times.
Send each other encouraging texts or funny memes throughout the week.
I want you to create a lived experience of the value of community and how working together makes everything easier!
How to join:
01: If youâre in The Walking Club:
Text a friend (or a few) and invite them into the Tribal Challenge.
Forward them this email so they know the details.
All new participants are welcome to join our community for the last week of the challenge!
Each day next week (August 25th - August 31st), Iâll be sharing the most important topics we touched on this summer, like health being a lifestyle, not a destination, and how to charge your body battery.
Weâll finish with a Labor Day 10k (details coming soon).
02: If youâre not in The Club but want to walk with me:
Iâd love to have you as my partner! Even if summer was too busy to commit, you can do this for five days. Together weâll aim for 10,000 steps a day, and youâll get to experience a mini-reset while joining our community. Invite your friends too!
Prizes:
Each participant in the top team will win:
Your choice of a weighted vest or walking pouch.
A 90-Day Nourished Planner (to finish the year strong).
Free entry to our next challenge starting mid-September.
Ready to register?
Just reply to this email (or email support@thelivingwell.com) with:
Your Team Name
Your Partnerâs email (team size of 2 required)
Or, if you want to be on my team: reply and let me know, and include the email address you want to use for your login to the challenge.
Letâs have fun with this. Letâs build community â both locally and right here. I might be biased, but I think weâre becoming one of the healthiest clubs around đ.
Weâll touch base on Sunday so everyoneâs ready to go on Monday!
P.S. I know school is starting for many, but thatâs kind of the point. Health doesnât have to pause when life shifts. When you let it flow with the season instead of stressing, youâll be surprised at how it all fits together. Use this challenge to change the story.
