If you’ve ever signed up for a challenge and never followed through, you’re not alone. I’ve been there too, many times. It turns out, this is totally normal—but it’s not always healthy.
Hard Truth: Starting something with good intentions but quitting (or not even starting) before change can occur often leaves us stuck in the same place.
I’ve thought long and hard about why I quit challenges, even though I always have the best of intentions. I came up with quite a few reasons, some of which are hard to admit.
Here’s my honest list of why I didn’t follow through:
The rewards felt too far off compared to the effort required.
Tracking or entering data was overwhelming (a common struggle for me).
There was no community, no personal aspect, no friendship or connection.
I did them in secret, with no accountability or support.
They were free, so I didn’t feel invested in them.
While it’s easy to be tempted by the *free* thing, there’s always a catch. It’s called the “zero price effect.” Researchers confirmed that when something is free, we value it less. Without an investment, there is rarely a need to commit.
Needless to say, I took all of this information about my lack of commitment to different challenges and reverse-engineered a new approach, at least one that my very uncommitted self has been able to commit to.
That’s why I created The Summer Walking *Club*
It’s not just another challenge—it’s an investment in your health and life. This club is about more than steps; it’s about building a new framework and habits that energize you and redefine how you show up for yourself.
The truth is, humans do better with an:
Investment
Internal rewards
Accountability and community
It’s even better when you have all three.
I’ve designed the club to include everything I wished for in past challenges, but couldn’t find. One of those things is finding value in yourself.
When you don’t value yourself, you won’t show up for yourself.
Not to mention, when you don’t value yourself, you become more obsessed with yourself, as a way of protection (it’s more selfish not to invest in yourself).
This summer, one of the frameworks I’ll show you is how this downplaying of self is actually preventing you from giving all that you are.
I don’t even have to use girl math to justify this; showing up for yourself is truly priceless.
#girlmath
But if you wanted a little girl math justification to sweeten the deal:
The Summer Walking Club costs less than $1 a day. If you engage fully, you’ll feel more energized, meaning you’ll need fewer $5 coffee runs. Even with an occasional mocha, you’re actually making money!
Walking more daily might sound simple, but you’ll be amazed at what it can do.
Sign up before Sunday to be entered to win a Garmin watch!
P.S. Curious about shirt sizing? Here’s a sizing guide. My husband and I both agree they fit true to size, but they are cute in the oversized look, too. Size up if that’s what you’re going for!
