The Walking Club: Week Nine

In Iowa, we are entering what is known as “dead week.”

It was initially created for student athletes to have a mandatory week of rest, a time for families to take vacations, and for kids to be kids without any adverse consequences for attendance.

After last week’s lesson, I thought you could use one more week to live out the middle. That’s why I’m declaring a walking club *dead week.*

You can use this week as needed. Whether that’s intentional rest or intentional adventure, or if you’re feeling good, to keep pounding away at those miles.

We’ve got some powerful lessons coming to round out The Summer Walking Club and help you turn these actions into patterns. But before we get there, we need to anchor ourselves in what’s happening right now.

But I think the only way to do that is to be aware of how you live it out right now. To pay attention to what you do and ultimately to create your own experience with it, which can only happen via trial and error.

Because health isn’t a destination. It’s not an arrival. It’s daily action.

Health is the experience you create based on what you do.

So, this week, as we sit in that middle ground, use it to uncover how to make health part of your natural rhythm. Remind yourself, health is not its own box. It’s all interconnected and woven into the fabric of your everyday life.

ACTION PLAN:

This week I want you to disconnect from noise (take a break from social media, podcast, and learning) and reconnect with your life.

  • Pay attention to what fills your energy tank and what drains it.

  • Experiment with something and evaluate.

  • Let go of confusion and over-complicating and just show up.

  • If it feels like a fight, go back to what is simple.

Commit to showing up and then showing up again, even if that means focusing on only one thing this week. That one thing may just create the domino effect on a multitude of other things. All without the added work.

Here are a few things to choose from:

  • Committing to a 10-minute walk every day.

  • Getting morning sunlight.

  • Going to bed on time.

  • Drinking more water.

  • Eating a solid breakfast.

  • Or heck, more sexual intimacy with your spouse 😘

I don’t know what you need, but I do know it doesn’t have to be complicated. Use this week to simplify it. Remember, health is in the basics.

With that said, in lieu of another lesson, I’m putting the brakes to give you space, while also encouraging you to take a little challenge.
