What if you stopped talking about weight loss?

That includes talking about…

  • The weight you gained.

  • How much weight do you want to lose?

  • The weight your friend lost.

  • The diet promises weight loss.

  • Slimming down or dialing in.

I’m being serious. What if this were an irrelevant conversation to have?

Because truthfully, it is.

Talking about your problem has never helped anyone get rid of it. At the same time, that doesn’t mean you can’t and shouldn’t desire to be at a healthy weight. You do, regardless of whether you’re aware of it or not.

Achieving a healthy body weight is an innate desire in all humans. It’s not just emotional, it’s biological.

Humans are designed in health for health. The ultimate goal of the body is vitality, and that means living in a way that allows your body to provide the energy, support, structure, and capacity to live your life.

And that means… living out a healthy body weight.

Our obsession with thinness didn’t happen without reason.

Which is why a topic such as this is so common. We didn’t become obsessed with thinness for no reason. We did it out of a biological drive that was packaged in the wrong message, which led us to focus on the wrong thing.

And in the process, many people lost their health (and livelihood). Ironically, that loss only amplified this drive.

The more disconnected we feel from health, the louder the fixation on weight becomes, because we want health, but we’ve attached health to the wrong message, leading us to chase something that never brings what we desire.

Yes, it’s the cycle of insanity. And if you’ve ever attempted to lose weight or have been fixated on weight loss, you know, it very much leads to insanity.

Here’s the reality. It’s one of the both/and conversations I love so much.

You can aim to achieve a healthy weight without focusing on weight loss.

You can want to be healthy and create it without obsessing over a number.

You can talk about health without mentioning what needs to be lost.

And truthfully… those are much better conversations to have.

In the latest podcast, I share the truth about body weight, why it matters, and what you should focus on instead of weight loss.

Listen to: Body Weight Matters (Just Not How You Think)

Below, we dive further into the conversation, making “weight loss” irrelevant. But that requires one key component: changing the meaning you give to body weight.
