Join the Health-Freaks: Your Ultimate Holiday Walking Challenge Awaits!
đđ 30 days of walking, joy, and a little holiday magic â no guilt required.
The first âraceâ I ever competed in (and I say competed lightly because I was never a top contender in distance running or walking) was a turkey trot.
The good olâ Thursday morning, pre-Thanksgiving meal and post-bloat, I geared up, put on my stocking hat, and hit the streets with the rest of what were considered âhealth-freaks.â
I never took offense to this label. I wore it like a badge of honor.
Now, I canât say my idea of health at the time served me well (it didnât). But deep down, I still cared about my body and health enough to do something that made me feel good.
Thatâs the gold in movement. Itâs not just to change how you look or what your cells are doing â those things matter â but itâs really to change how you feel.
The real reason some stick with movement and some donât!
A friend recently sent me a great reminder about movement (read the full thread if you have time). To sum it up: researchers wanted to know why some women never fall off their fitness routines.
What they found wasnât what they expectedâŠ
It wasnât motivation.
It wasnât willpower.
And it definitely wasnât âmore time.â
The women who stayed consistent the longest werenât focused on aesthetics. They were seeking peace. For them, training wasnât pressure. It was relief.
Movement really does change the way you feel, and thatâs the real reason Iâve stayed with it. I can list all the health benefits (and there are many), but at the root of my humanity, I move because it makes me feel good. And thatâs why I want to inspire you to move too â even when you donât feel like it. Not out of punishment or guilt, but out of a desire to feel differently.
Letâs face it, the holidays bring a lot of feels. Some we can control, others we canât. And one way to create the feelings we do want is not always more couch time, but often lacing up those walking shoes (maybe strapping on a weighted vest) and hitting the trails or snow-covered streets.
đ Your Holiday Challenge
Starting December 1st, Iâm inviting you to 30 Days of Movement â not to change your body, but to change how you feel. You donât have to wait until the New Year! Start now and give yourself the gift of feeling lighter, calmer, and more joyful.
To make it fun, inspiring, and a little competitive (in the best way!), weâre kicking things off with a warm-up week. This week, get acquainted with moving, yes, even on a holiday! And wear your âhealth-freakâ badge proudly.
This week, focus on one of two things:
Take a 30-minute walk daily (preferably outside)
Hit 8,000 steps daily (if you have a step tracker)
You can certainly set your own goal. I just want to keep it simple enough that youâll do it!
