Confessional: I hate five-year plans.
I've given up long-term planning, mostly because I've experienced a lot of trauma around my plans not happening.
We often joke in our house that our lives tend to travel more in opposite and unforeseen spaces, but rarely the ones we've planned.
If I'm completely honest, I've had more than one panic attack because of this.
But something shifted years ago when I realized it wasn't what was unplanned that was ripping me apart. It was because I held on so firmly to my failed plan that I couldn't even see the good the unexpected could bring.
I couldn't get beyond the "what wasn't" to see what had become.
That's why I've learned to hold my long-term plan with an open hand.
This shift has opened so many unexpected doors I would have walked right past!
It's also helped me become 1000x healthier and happier because I'm not so focused on controlling life that I lose sight of the spontaneity and joy found in the mundane.
