Bioenergetic Weight Loss (Replay Inside)
Learn how energy restoration can revolutionize your metabolism and health.
One of my favorite moments from last night’s class was seeing your reactions when we uncovered how most people aren’t eating enough.
For the record, no one should be consuming less than 1,500 kcal/day. That’s a baseline, not a target.
In fact, a healthy maintenance range for most people is much higher—closer to 2,600–3,000 kcal/day (and that’s still moderate).
To illustrate this, we took a quick dive into the Minnesota Starvation Experiment, which highlighted how what we consider “normal” caloric intake in America could actually border on semi-starvation.
The Key Takeaway: Energy Restoration
I know it sounds wild to think about consuming that many calories (and no, you can’t just jump to those numbers overnight), but restoring your energy intake is critical, both before and after weight loss.
This process, often called reverse dieting or energy restoration, helps your metabolism return to a healthy, homeostatic level.
It not only leaves you feeling better in every way, but it is also critical when and if you enter a fat loss phase so you can target fat tissue loss, not the loss of other tissue — like muscle and organ mass — like so many other diets do.
Rethinking the Scale
Remember: the number on the scale isn’t the full story. What that number represents, or the type of mass that number makes up, is of utmost importance.
This is why I focused so much on structure during the class. Structure is often overlooked, yet it’s critical for achieving sustainable fat loss.
You can’t produce healthy, nutrient-rich, and energy-generating structures without energy.
That’s why I will always approach health, including weight loss, from the expansive approach—not the typical restriction and reduction approach.
That requires energy restoration, not elimination. First, you must eat more before you eat less.
To produce a healthy structure, you have to expand your energy. Doing this will change how you look (and, more importantly, how you feel).
